Lu Agnew is a nonbinary, Chilean-American artist, designer, and thinker with a double degree in Philosophy and Art Practice from UC Berkeley. They are currently working full-time as an artist, concentrating in sculpture and large-scale abstract painting, while also developing a collection of philosophical essays that explore the human condition amid the rise of the digital world.
Their artistic and intellectual practices are deeply intertwined—both rooted in an effort to illuminate what it means to exist and create meaning in a rapidly changing age. Drawing from years of experience in professional creative environments, Lu brings a refined visual sensibility to their work. They have worked at a tech startup as an AI illustrator, collaborated with major brands such as Chanel and Hugo Boss as a design intern, and designed a wide array of unique, custom items—ranging from furniture to websites—for a variety of friends and clients. Their approach to design remains grounded in curiosity and experimentation, treating each project as an opportunity to disclose new concepts while maintaining a high level of skill and technique.
Their current work focuses on exploring the loss of tactility, the unity of opposites, and preservation of primordial elements within our increasingly digitized world. Whether through pigment, form, or word, Lu’s practice seeks to reveal both the beauty and the dissonance of our contemporary world.
